Single Arrow Shootoffs: Academically .. What is Archery?

Archery is where a peculiar collection of academic disciplines collide on a wet, windy field in Central Scotland while everyone eats their Captain Sausage supplied snack:

I'm blaming a butterfly living on the Amazon river!*

• engineering in building the bow,
• economics in buying it,
• biology in drawing it,
• physics in shooting the arrow,
• geodesy (surveying) in marking out a field
• neurology in learning it,
• linguistics in explaining it,
• psychology in surviving it,
• and meteorology in ruining it.

Although if we're being truly honest, there is also:

• archaeology in finding arrows,
• statistics in pretending one good end proves something,
• theology in looking for divine intervention,
• and diplomacy in committee meetings.

So an impressively well read way of spending a Sunday morning complaining about wind. And you thought it was just having fun and a gossip down the club.
