Are expensive nocks worth the money?
Simply put, YES!
When you shoot an arrow, all the power of your bow (potential energy) goes via the nock and into the arrow (now kinetic). If that nock fails you risk a dry fire where all the energy of the shot remains in your bow. THIS IS BAD for all bows but especially for compounds. How bad? .. where an archery shop will have to check your bow for terminal damage and if its ok, restring it bad. So never cheap out on nocks and always replace damaged or cracked ones. On the plus side you'll have endless material to complain about how expensive smashing one is when you are really boasting about how tight your group was! ;o)

GA fast fact: Opaque nocks are a bit more resilient (less brittle) than transparent ones.

When compound bow manufacturers design new bows, often as not, they dry fire it repeated to test it. And not just a few times. Being born a bear with very little brains, when I adopted a D-loop and got tired, I dry fired my bow quite a few times myself (having forgotten to put an arrow on the bow, which can't be done when the release rope went around the bowstring and under the arrow) ... to no ill effect. Granted, I was only drawing in the mid-forties pounds of draw weight but I was also shooting older bow, which is manufacturer's braggadocio is accepted were not made anywhere near as well as today's "new, improved" bows.
Still "dry fires" are not to be recommended. :o)
